Use Divisions to Group Campers and Staff

Learn how to use Divisions to organize campers and staff

In Campminder, divisions categorize campers and staff based on grade, not age, and every camper needs a division assignment. If your camp doesn't usually use divisions, create a single one named "All Camp" with broad constraints to accommodate everyone.

Setting up your divisions creates wider buckets for classification. In the example below, our highest categories (Juniors, Inters, and Seniors) are our Divisions. Below that, Subdivisions further filter campers, and bunks even further.

Define Divisions

Part of your initial camp setup will involve defining divisions. You can always return to this setup to edit and add divisions as needed.

  1. Navigate to Admin > Camper Setup >Divisions.

  2. Under "Add Division", enter the Division Name, Gender, and age constraints for each division. You may choose to make a division a ''Subdivision'' of another division. Subdivisions can aid in reporting, but it's not necessary.

  3. Choose the grade range of the division. Choices range from ''Infant'' to ''12+.'' or whatever you set in the custom grade labels.

    📖Related Help Materials:

  4. Set a division's capacity if needed, or leave it at zero for no limit.

Note: This setting is for your records only—it won’t limit camper enrollment. Enrollment limits are managed in your season settings. Divisions are simply internal tools to help with reporting and camper organization.

    📖Related Help Materials:

  5. To attach this division to campers, click the "Camper Enrollment" box, which is typically selected.

  6. Click "Staff Only" to limit the division to staff; leave it unchecked to include both campers and staff.

  7. Click ''Save."

Example: Below we see a camp with four divisions and no subdivisions.

Note: If a camper can't see required forms, it’s often because their record is missing a division. Check if the form is limited by division, and ensure the camper has one assigned.
