Divisions are the broadest layer of how Campminder organizes people. Every camper needs a division assignment — it's how the system connects them to the right forms, sessions, and reports.
Set these up early, because they affect almost everything that comes after.
What you'll learn:
How divisions, subdivisions, and bunks relate to each other
How to create and configure a division with the right constraints
Which settings control staff vs. camper visibility and enrollment

Create Your Divisions
Part of your initial camp setup will involve defining divisions. You can always return to this setup to edit and add divisions as needed.
Navigate to Admin > Camper Setup > Divisions.
Under Add Division, enter a Division Name, Gender, and the age constraints for the division.
Choose the grade range for the division. Options run from Infant through 12+, or whatever custom grade labels you've configured.
Set a capacity if you want to track a target number, or leave it at zero for no limit.
📋Note: This capacity is for your records only — it won't restrict enrollment.
Enrollment limits are managed in your season settings.

Check Camper Enrollment to attach this division to campers. This is selected by default and should stay on for most divisions.
Check Staff Only if you want to restrict the division to staff members. Leave it unchecked to include both campers and staff.
Click Save.
🎯 Try it now: Go to Admin > Camper Setup > Divisions and create your first division with a real name, grade range, and gender setting. Save it, then come back.
A Note on Subdivisions
When creating a division, you can optionally designate it as a Subdivision of another division. Subdivisions add a middle layer between divisions and bunks — useful if you have multiple units within a broader age group (Juniors, Junior A, Junior B, etc.).
💡 Tip: Subdivisions are helpful for reporting but aren't required. If your camp runs straightforward age groups without sub-units, skip them entirely.
Tips & Examples
💡 Tip: If your camp doesn't use divisions in practice, create a single division called "All Camp" with wide grade constraints to cover everyone. Every camper still needs one assigned.
💡 Tip: If a camper can't see required forms, a missing division assignment is often the reason. Check whether the form is filtered by division, and make sure the camper has one.
💡 Tip: Think of your division structure in three layers: Divisions (broadest) → Subdivisions (optional middle layer) → Bunks (most specific). Set up divisions here, and bunks come later in your setup sequence.
Example: Below we see a camp with four divisions and no subdivisions.
Before you move on, check yourself:
Do you understand how divisions, subdivisions, and bunks relate to each other?
Have you created at least one division with a name, grade range, and gender assigned?
Do you know which setting limits a division to staff only?
