Discount Rounding Types
Campminder lets you round discount totals to whole numbers, making billing simpler.
When setting up non-seasonal line items, you can enable rounding and choose from four options:
Round Half Up – Rounds .50 and above up (e.g., $25.50 → $26).
Banker’s Rounding – Rounds to the nearest even number (e.g., $122.50 → $122, $123.50 → $124).
Always Round Up – Any remainder rounds up (e.g., $25.01 → $26).
Always Round Down – Any remainder rounds down (e.g., $25.99 → $25).
Choose the method that best fits your camp’s needs!
Sibling Discounts
If your camp offers sibling discounts, you must configure the Sibling Discount settings.
Video Walkthrough
Navigate to Admin > Financial Admin. Select a Season and the Discounts tab.
Under the Sibling heading, click on the gear icon in the upper right.
Use the dropdown to select whether siblings receive a unique discount or the same discount.
If you selected the Same, restrict which sessions count toward the required enrollment threshold.
💡 Tip: For multiple selections, hold Command/Control on your keyboard and click each item.
Check Offer Discount Only if Min. # of Sessions Met to require a minimum number of qualifying sessions, then enter that number.
Enable Allow Different Discount for New vs. Returning to apply separate discounts based on sibling status.
Select a rule from the Determined Sibling Order dropdown.
📋 Note: If you select "Camper Charges," a second dropdown lets you choose which Financial Categories count toward that calculation — be sure to include Tuition.
Example: with "highest to lowest" selected, Sibling 1 is whichever camper has accrued the most charges, even if they're the third child in the family to apply.
Click the green Set button. Then click the lower gear icon that appears in the Sibling column to open a new configuration window.
Check the box if the discount requires a code, and enter the code.
Enter an optional expiration date, then click the green Set button.
Back in the Sibling column, use the dropdowns to assign a sibling Line Item credit to each sibling position (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on).
Use Add Sibling to define discounts for additional siblings, or check Apply to all subsequent siblings to automatically apply your last defined discount to every sibling beyond that point.
📋 Note: Only Line Items with the "Sibling" Financial Type activated for the season appear here — these can't be applied manually to individual records. The 1st sibling slot is most commonly set to "None," since the first child in a family typically doesn't receive a sibling discount.
Click the green Save button to commit your settings.
📋 Note: Sibling discounts aren't retroactive — they only apply to attendees who complete the Camper Application after you save these rules.
🏕️ Camps in Action
A camp offering tiered sibling discounts defined rates for the first three children in a family.
They selected the Apply to all subsequent siblings box to auto calculate for any families enrolling with additional campers. When a family of five enrolled, the fourth and fifth children automatically received the same rate as the third — no extra configuration needed for larger families.
🎯 Try it now: Go to Admin > Financial Admin > Discounts and set up your Sibling Discount rule for the current season. Come back when you've saved it.
Multiple Session Discounts
To offer discounts for enrolling in multiple sessions, configure the Multiple Sessions Discount settings.
📋 Note: Multiple Session Discounts don't apply to adult or family applications.
Video Walkthrough
Click the upper gear icon in the top right of the Multiple Sessions column.
Choose whether to count multiple sessions by total enrollment by family or by camper.
💡 Tip: A per-camper rule requires one child to enroll in the qualifying number of sessions. A per-family rule counts sessions across every child in the household.
Click the green Set button.
Click the lower gear icon in the Multiple Sessions column to manage Discount Groups:
Name the Discount Group.
Set a minimum and maximum number of qualifying sessions.
Select which sessions count toward the discount.
Set an optional expiration date.
Check Discount Requires Code and enter a code, if needed.
Click the green Set button.
Use the dropdowns in the Multiple Sessions column to assign the Line Item credit for each qualifying session count.
📋 Note: Only Line Items with the "Multiple Session" Financial Type activated for the season appear here.
Click the green Save button to commit your settings.
🎯 Try it now: Go to Admin > Financial Admin > Discounts and create a Multiple Session Discount Group for your season. Come back when you've saved it.
Promotional Codes
Campminder lets you add promotional codes for applicants. They work like the coupon codes families use on retail sites to get a discount at checkout.
A few ways camps use them:
A local newspaper ad offers a tuition discount to anyone who signs up with the code before a set date.
The first 10 open house attendees get a discount code for signing up by Monday.
Last season's campers get an emailed discount code to encourage them to return.
📋 Note: Applicants can enter only one promo code per attendee.
Video Walkthrough
Create the Promo Code Line Item
Navigate to Admin > Financial Admin > Line Items > Credits.
Click Define New. Name the Line Item and select Discounts as the Financial Category.
Select Credit as the Transaction Type and Person as Apply To.
💡 Tip: Promotional codes always apply at the person level, not the family level.
Choose Promotional Code from the Financial Type dropdown.
Choose whether the code discounts a dollar amount ($) or a percentage (%).
💡 Tip: For a percentage discount, choose which Financial Categories it applies to — for example, tuition but not transportation or canteen fees. Avoid applying it to other discounts, which can create a loop effect.
Check Enable Whole Number Rounding if you want the balance rounded automatically after the discount applies.
Connect It to Your Season
In Admin > Financial Admin, open your season and activate the Line Item you just created under Credits. Add in the $ or % ammount for the season and click the Active button. Click Save.
Click the Discounts tab. Under Promotional Codes, click Add Promotional Code.
Fill in the code details:
Name: Internal label, not shown to applicants.
Quantity: Limit the number of uses.
Code: The text applicants will enter (e.g., CampFun2024).
Expiration: End date for the code.
One Usage Per Family: Restrict code to one camper per family.
Specific Sessions: Limit to certain sessions (e.g., Rookie Camp or Full Season).
Grade: Restrict to a grade range (e.g., 11th–12th for CITs).
Years: Restrict by years at camp (e.g., 1 for new campers, 2–99 for returners).
💡 Tip: For "Years," a new camper counts as 1 year since the code applies at enrollment. Elsewhere in the system, new campers may show as year 0.
Click Set to add the code, then link it to the correct Line Item on the Discounts tab.
Click Save.
📋 Note: Edit a code anytime with the gear icon, or remove it with the red X.
Turn Code On for Applicants
Navigate to CampInTouch > Forms > Camper Application Settings.
Under Parent Information, check Promo Codes.
Click Save Changes
📋 Note: The application won't accept codes until this box is checked.
🎯 Try it now: Go to Admin > Financial Admin > Line Items > Credits and create your first promo code Line Item. Come back when you've saved it.
Pay In Full Discount
A Pay in Full discount is a great way to encourage families to pay their full balance at enrollment, helping expedite cash flow.
Video Walkthrough
Navigate to the current season, click the Line Items tab, then select the Credits tab.
Locate the Pay in Full credit line item and check the box to activate it for the season.
Enter the discount amount ($ or %).

Click Save in the bottom-right corner.
🎯 Try it now: Go to Admin > Financial Admin > Line Items > Credits and activate the Pay in Full discount for your season. Come back when you've done it.
Understanding Discounts and Promotional codes
Understanding how system discounts work can help you set up your codes correctly the first time. Once a system discount is entered, it’s fixed for the season. If you remove it and update the ledger, the system will automatically reapply the original discount code.
Note: Applicants can only enter ONE promo code per attendee on the application.
System discounts (sibling, multi-session, and promo codes) recalculate automatically whenever a family's ledger updates.
Why This Matters:
Families can update their ledgers (e.g., adding spending money), so changes may happen without your knowledge.
If a discount is applied and a session is canceled, the system recalculates to ensure the discount is accurate.
Example: you’d want the calculator to recalculate the ledger if someone was getting a 5% off promo code and then cancels a session.
A Promo Code's expiration date is the last day it can be applied. Once applied, though, the discount keeps working on eligible line items added later, even after that date, because the ledger recalculates continuously. This keeps discounts accurate and ensures families only receive what they qualify for.
Before you move on, check yourself:
Can you explain the difference between a Sibling discount applied "the Same" vs. "a unique" amount per sibling?
Do you know which Financial Type a Line Item needs before it will appear as a discount credit option?
Can you explain why a removed system discount reappears after the ledger updates?
